Last year, an equivalent of фдьщіе UAH 16 billion (over UAH 11 billion in December) was transferred to the special account the NBU opened on 24 February 2022 to support the defense forces of Ukraine.
In total, over UAH 50 billion has been credited to the special account since russia launched the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The money has been delivered by individuals and businesses of Ukraine and from all over the international community (including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Switzerland, Norway, Australia, France, Canada, Bulgaria, Hong Kong, and many other countries). That includes almost UAH 29.4 billion that was remitted from abroad in foreign currencies (U.S. dollars, euros, GB pounds, Canadian dollars, Chinese renminbi, Japanese yen, Swiss francs, Polish zlotys, and Australian dollars).
As of 1 January 2025, the special account balance is almost UAH 12.3 billion.
Overall, the NBU has allocated more than UAH 38 billion (over UAH 92.5 million in December 2024) to meet the needs of the defense.
In particular, the following transfers were made:
- over UAH 1,561 million for the National Guard of Ukraine (including in 2024: UAH 34.7 million on 1 February 2024, UAH 9.9 million on 18 March 2024, UAH 9.5 million on 29 August 2024, UAH 49.9 million on 16 October 2024)
- UAH 1,650 million for the National Police of Ukraine
- over UAH 23,703 million for the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (whereof in 2024: over UAH 387.4 million on 10 January 2024; UAH 112.7 million on 29 January 2024; UAH 43.1 million on 4 July 2024; UAH 0.8 million on 29 July 2024; UAH 0.8 million - on 18 September 2024; UAH 1,872 million on 24 September 2024; UAH 464.2 million on 2 October 2024; UAH 44 million on 18 October 2024)
- UAH 988 million for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (whereof in 2024: UAH 7.8 million on 1 August 2024)

- over UAH 286.9 million for the needs of military units (whereof in 2024: over UAH 9.9 million on 3 January 2024, UAH 34.9 million on 28 February 2024, UAH 10 million on 4 March 2024, UAH 15.8 million on 7 March 2024, UAH 9.9 million on 11 March 2024; UAH 10 million - on 18 March 2024, UAH 1.2 million on 21 March 2024, UAH 9.9 million on 22 March 2024; UAH 9.9 million on 25 March 2024)
- Over UAH 1,404 million for the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (whereof in 2024: UAH 115 million on 22 March 2024, UAH 51.7 million on 19 April 2024, UAH 74.3 million on 23 May 2024, UAH 20.3 million on 6 September 2024)
- – UAH 48.6 million for the Defence Procurement Agency (whereof in 2024: UAH 47 million on 23 August 2024, UAH 1.65 million on 18 November 2024).

The NBU transfers funds from the special account for the needs of the defense forces only upon request from military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other Ukrainian military agencies engaged in tasks to protect the country.
