The National Bank of Ukraine has updated the list of currencies for which the official hryvnia exchange rate is set. The updates are effective 31 March 2025.
- In particular, the frequency of setting the official hryvnia exchange rate against Algerian dinar, baht, UAE dirham, dong, lari, Lebanese pound, Malaysian ringgit, Saudi riyal, Serbian dinar, taka, and Tunisian dinar has been changed from monthly to daily.
- In addition, russian ruble, belarusian ruble, Brazilian real, Armenian dram, Dominican peso, Iraqi dinar, Iranian riyal, Libyan dinar, Moroccan dirham, New Taiwan dollar, Pakistan rupee, som, somoni, Turkmenistan new manat, and Uzbekistan sum have been excluded from the list of currencies against which the NBU sets the official hryvnia exchange rates.
As previously reported, the NBU has updated approaches to determining the list of currencies for official hryvnia exchange rates, canceling the list of currencies for which the official exchange rate was set on a monthly basis.
The need to update the approaches to determining the list of currencies is due to a increase in the level of automation of calculations, which has reduced operational constraints and risks of daily calculation of the official exchange rate for a wide range of currencies.
The NBU made no other updates to the lists of currencies and investment metals for official hryvnia exchange rates.
The changes to the list of currencies were approved by NBU Order No. 298 On Approval of Lists of Foreign Currencies and Special Drawing Rights, Investment Metals dated 28 March 2025, effective 31 March 2025.
Specific requirements for setting the official hryvnia exchange rate against foreign currencies were approved by NBU Board Resolution No. 36 On Approval of Amendments to the Regulation On Setting the Official Hryvnia Exchange Rate against Foreign Currencies and Calculating the Reference Hryvnia Exchange Rate against the U.S. Dollar and Accounting Prices for Investment Metals dated 24 March 2025, which comes into force on 31 March 2025.
The list of currencies for official hryvnia exchange rates were updated pursuant to Section I paragraph 3 subparagraphs 1 and 2, Section II paragraphs 5 and 6 of the Regulation On Setting the Official Hryvnia Exchange Rate against Foreign Currencies and Calculating the Reference Exchange Rate of the Hryvnia against the U.S. Dollar and Official Prices for Investment Metals approved by NBU Board Resolution No. 148 dated 10 December 2019 (as amended).
